The lazy legs syndrome

Monday was a hot day and we have not have many hot days this year, actually since april we have not had any 90 degree + days. I went out for a walk on my bike(40 mins) and it was nice to ride on a hot day but my legs felt like rocks.. I have a stage race in Millersbug, Pa this coming weekend and i am looking forward to getting back on top of my game. I am feeling strong but for some reason i have not been able to place well or win a race in awhile. My TT abilities seem to be the strongest but in my last race i placed 11th which is my lowest placing in any TT that i have done to this date. Given the Torrential downpour that a few of us faced in the last 3 miles this could of been the reason, but i am not one to make excuses as i think you train hard and that should be the best. Today is another active recovery day so heading out for another walk on the bike later today will be fun, i guess due to the slowing of the economey we have to find ways to stay motivated. Back to the title of this Blog and i think what i am trying to form in the meaning of a question, why are our legs sore from riding hard time and time again. If we train hard and make advances then what stopes our bodies from adapting to the adaptation that we are trying to impose on it. Does stretching, self massage, massage therapy or any other type of manual therapy make a difference(kind of a stupid question) but what about the people that don't stretch or take any type of care of themselves and still seem to do better and better...

Sunday's 70 miler

Here is a link to todays ride: http://www.mapmyride.com/route/us/ct/torrington/905124974617159353

If you are from the Litchfield county area then you should give this ride a try, just bypass river rd and stay on rt 7. The ride is fun, hard and though it does not look that bad the climbs do sneak up on you. By some suprise it did not rain at all today which made the ride perfect, i killed myself during my intervals and by the time the fourth one rolled around i was no longer able to pull 3 guys at the pace they wanted to go. My steady effort was fine for me so i stuck with it, they passed me and i caught back up it is amazing how a steady effort can be so hard to maintain but in the long run get you to the same place. I ended up with almost 73 miles and averaged about 21.5 mph which for a none race interval training ride was pretty good i guess. Nothing to interesting happened on the ride since i spent most the ride ether in front or catching up there was really no conversation that i was a ware of. We did see two Vultures riping apart a dead animal on the side of the road which was rather grose if you ask me. Well that is it for now, back to watching season 5 episodes of house and looking forward to how my body feels in the morning.

My First Post

Greeting to all that are reading this.. I have been cycling with a purpose for about a year now and doing quite well i must say. I started the season as a Cat 5 cyclist and have made my way up to Cat 3 which i am happy about but now after placing well in my first few races i have found myself struggling to move forward to my next goal of reaching Cat 2. I know this seems like an unrealistic goal but hey you have to have them right? Today is sunday and i woke up this morning feeling stiff and not really motivated to get out of bed, but i had the idea to make some Ckn fried rice for after my ride today so i had to drag myself out of bed and take care of the morning rituals before my buddy shows up to ride with me. He is motivated again and for a while he became that type of cyclist that would only ride in nice weather and would bag with any given chance of rain or anything that was unpleasant(girl friend problems has motivated him to stop being such a drag) good for me and the rest of his cycling buddies.. So anyways i am not sure what the hell i was rambeling about but i am sure before i got interupted by facebook i was trying to make some point... Lets see... Now i am about to get ready to head out for a 3 hr ride which is comprised of long intervals with sprints built into them to make the already hard workout more fun.. On a good note the weather, though threating to rain is cool and no to little wind.. I am sure we will get rained on today but as always i hope to miss the rain because i hate cleaning the bike. I have no probelm with riding in the pooring rain but when it rains just enough to get the roads wet and make the underside of your bike look like a meal for forest creatures then that is no fun... Lets hope that my legs are stong today since it seems my ride for two has turned into a ride for four, which when you have a purpose to a workout or ride can not all way be the most welcoming of situations.. Hey i welcome the company though.. I welcome anyone that wants to put themselves through one of my workouts, i think for someone that has no structure to there riding it can be an eye opening experience. Off to get ready for the ride today.. i think i will write more about the ride later but who knows.
